The Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan (RTA) has recently appointed Dave Massaron as the board chair, along with three new members, to contribute their expertise and visionary leadership to the organization. Together, they will play a crucial role in fulfilling the RTA’s mission of providing safe, accessible, and sustainable transportation options for the Southeast Michigan region.
Joining the RTA’s growing leadership team are Julia Roberts as the Planning and Innovation Director, Melanie Piana as the Program Director, and Corri Wofford as the External Affairs Director.
Julia Roberts brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role as the Planning and Innovation Director. With a track record of developing productive agency transformations, implementing equitable pilot projects, and managing grants, Roberts is poised to contribute her visionary approach to technological innovation and public transit. Her previous position as the Executive Director of Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express (W.A.V.E.) solidifies her reputation as a driving force in the industry. Roberts expressed her enthusiasm for becoming an integral part of the RTA and contributing to the region’s shared mobility future.
Melanie Piana’s unique blend of organizational operations, program management, and expertise in urban revitalization, nonprofits, and local government make her an invaluable addition to the RTA’s leadership team. Piana, an award-winning community leader, has spearheaded positive change and fostered regional collaboration in various communities. With her background in community development, economic growth, and climate resiliency, she is well-equipped to promote shared prosperity in mobility and transportation across the region. Piana looks forward to advancing strategic initiatives in collaboration with the RTA’s board of directors, transit agencies, elected officials, and communities.
In her role as the External Affairs Director, Corri Wofford will lead all communications, government relations, and community outreach efforts for the RTA. Wofford has demonstrated exceptional skills in effectively communicating the RTA’s mission and building positive relationships with stakeholders during her time with the organization. In her expanded role, she aims to strengthen the RTA’s brand with external partners and stakeholders, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to transparent and collaborative decision-making. Wofford is excited about the opportunity to not only contribute to the growth of the RTA as an organization but also to continue her community engagement work in a different capacity. She has already started mapping out several projects that the RTA plans to develop.
With the addition of these new board members and leaders, the RTA is poised to make significant strides in improving transportation in Southeast Michigan. Their collective expertise and visionary approach will help shape the organization’s mission of providing safe, accessible, and sustainable transportation options to the region’s residents.
