Eastern Michigan University students teamed up with Embarco Management to bring awareness around gun violence through the inaugural NVRCH Music Festival. Hosted by WJLB’s Dr Darrius, the festival will take place Thursday, September 19, 2019 at EMU’s Convocation Center. The festival is expecting nearly 3,000 people and will feature national recording artist Lil Baby along with Neisha Neshae, Polo Frost, EMU’s own ASDR and a number of local artists.
After losing a beloved classmate— Jayquon Tillman to senseless gun violence, a group of students decided to create the music festival to raise funds for a scholarship in Tillman’s name. They connected with Embarco Management to bring the vision to life.
“We hope this festival will not only be an amazing experience, but also a way to shed light on the effects of gun violence,” says Honore’ Washington, co-founder of NVRCH Music Festival. “As the first hip-hop music festival to be held at EMU, we’re excited to honor Jayquon in such a powerful way. This festival represents his spirit, and his ability to inspire, push and motivate those around him to strive for greatness and reach any goal they’ve created for themselves.”
Tickets are currently on sale through the www.nvrchfestival.comwebsite and $3 for every ticket sold will be donated to the Jayquon Tillman Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ticket prices include both the outdoor festival and indoor concert.
“I’ve been working on mainstream events and talent for many years, so it was a great opportunity to use our resources to support an event like this,” says Mikey Eckstein, founder and CEO of Embarco Management. “This should be a great event with an even greater purpose.”
The day portion of the festival, which will include food trucks and retail vendors, will kick off at 2:00 p.m. The evening portion of the festival— which will headline “Drip Too Hard” rapper Lil Baby, will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The official line-up includes Lil Baby, Neisha Neshae, Polo Frost, Jasiah, ASDR, Young Boi Rob, BeamerBoySoul, OMM, Rich Lee, Asaka, Philup Banks, Toonz, Beyoulelo, NBE, and Jon Flay.
