Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation donates $10 million to revitalize Detroit neighborhoods

The revitalization of Detroit neighborhoods is a priority for city leaders and donors in Detroit. Since 2015, Mayor Mike Duggan and others have concentrated on these efforts through the Strategic Neighborhood Fund. Now, the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation is providing funding for the city’s efforts.

The $10 million will go toward improving homes, city parks, streetscapes and more. Major corporations such as American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc., Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Fifth Third Bank, Flagstar Bank, Huntington Bank, Penske Corp., and TCF- Chemical Bank have agreed to donate $5 million to SNF. The $10 million will be distributed over the next five years through non-profit organization Invest Detroit.

Invest Detroit CEO Dave Blaszkiewicz stated that there’s a true commitment that exists between everyone involved with the neighborhood initiative.

“The Strategic Neighborhood Fund is a true public-private-philanthropic partnership,” said Blaszkiewicz. “We are already seeing more investment in Detroit’s neighborhoods than we have in decades, and this will lead to economic growth that brings more jobs, residents, and investment.”

With the bustle that surrounds Downtown Detroit, it feels good to know that the same energy is being reciprocated in our local neighborhoods.
