Michigan Chronicle: What can fans expect from your upcoming Valentine’s Day performance?

Niko Noir:  It’s going to be a mix of everything. I feel like, even if it’s not your typical lovey-dovey songs, anything relationship-based is love. So it’s going to be a lot of unreleased stuff, things that are coming out soon, on my upcoming projects this year. It’s going to be a good little mixture. So it’s going to be all feelings.

MC: How does love and romance influence your music?

NN: That’s, what I mostly write about. I write about, life things but romance and love is like a main theme of my life. So you can expect that a lot. I think that when it comes to relationships, they don’t always have to romantic, they can be platonic as well.

MC: What is your favorite love song to perform, either original or cover?

NN: I will say ‘Personal’. That’s been a song that I’ve been really thoroughly enjoying performing because it’s a great song for everybody to sing, even if you’re not the best singer. I feel like everyone can sing. It is my idea of “When I See You” by Fantasia song, but when talking about covers, I enjoy singing ‘The Way’ By Jill Scott.

MC: Do you have any memorable Valentine’s Day experiences—on or off the stage?

NN: (Niko laughing) I just came to a realization; I’m an adult. My holidays are what I make them now. So, I’m starting with Valentine’s Day. It’s going to be a whole celebration. I’m single, but I still plan to celebrate my friends. Love is all around me. It’s not just romance. So I want to celebrate myself, my friends, and those around me and show my appreciation to them, my home girls. I want to do a Galentine’s celebration.”

MC: If you could dedicate a love song to someone special (or not so special), which would it be and why?

NN: Erykah Badu, ‘Your Funeral’ and I would dedicate to every male that slides into my DMs, asked to take me out, and played around with my time.

MC: What are you most looking forward to with Friday’s upcoming performance?

NN: Showcasing new music. I’m super excited about meeting Dua Saleh. I’ve been listening to her even before the opportunity. So I’m excited to meet her. I’m really just excited about what’s to come after this performance. I feel good about the outcome of this upcoming performance. But most importantly, I’m excited to perform new music and get the audience to sing along with me.
