Oxygen Media hosted an Exclusive Sneak Peak Screening and Dinner for it’s new hit series “Preachers of Detroit” at the Charles H. Wright African American Museum of History in the heart of Detroit. The new reality show will offer viewers an exceptionally candid peek inside the world of Detroit’s religious royalty, and these reigning leaders of the clergy have more than enough going on in their spiritual and personal lives to keep viewers tuning in week after week.
Hosted by Bishop Greg Davis, the red carpet affair gave distinguished Detroiters and local media a sneak peek at the upcoming season of one of Motown’s newest entrants in the entertainment arena. Guests enjoyed a sit-down dinner and intimate discussions with cast members Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, Bishop Corletta Vaughn, Pastor Tim Alden, Pastor David Bullock, Bishop Clarence Langston, Pastor Don William Shelby Jr. and Evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole.

As audience members viewed clips introducing the stars of “ The Real Preachers of Detroit,” provocative discussions ensued as each featured celebrant shared eye-opening — and is some cases — earth shattering revelations about their professional lives and personal relationships.
As discussions with these revered leaders continued both on and off the stage, a common theme which is the underpinning of so many ongoing religious and non-religious dialogues began to emerge – the transformation of Detroit.

“I think that we as leaders of this community have to be more about action than talking. … It’s one thing to pray, but after you get done praying you have to get up and do something,” said Bishop Charles Ellis, spiritual leader of one of Detroit’s most prominent houses of worship, Greater Grace Temple. “My father taught me that each man must minister to his own generation and you cannot minister to an iPad generation with an eight track cassette tape methodology.”
So far the show is proving to be one of the Oxygen channels more gripping franchises, on par to outpace the buzz (and the ratings) generated by its West Coast counterpart, “The Real Preachers of L.A.”
But one of the more shocking monologues of the evening occurred during Rev. David Bullock’s monologue on intimacy in the church. “Of course I can have intimacy and be a preacher. The church in America is hyper-sexed — nobody wants to talk about it, but a lot of people are doing it” said the young pastor known as much for his political ambitions as he is for his religious beliefs. “If two people love each other, I don’t think that that’s none of my business,” added Bullock.
Mouths again fell open and guests gasped when Pastor Timothy Alden revealed that he had “never had sex and never been kissed.” And a collective hush fell over the Rotunda in the Charles Wright museum when Bishop Clarence Langston shared that he’d faced death on more than one occasion during his days as a dope dealer on the run from the law and other criminals on the streets of Detroit.
Evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole and Bishop Corletta Vaughn will no doubt hear from scores of worshippers when the network airs their controversial and hotly debated views on the role of women in the church.
Special guests included gospel singer, Lexi. The “Preachers Of Detroit” season premiere will debut on Friday, February 20th at 8/7c.
