The victim of a small plane crash near an airport in Michigan’s northern lower peninsula has been identified.
The pilot, 58-year old Arthur A. Green III of Farmington Hills was the only person on board when the plane crash. It was later discovered near Emmet Brick and Block around 7:30 a.m. Monday. Green was a firsy lietenant of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
It appears the plane crashed overnight as it neared the small airport for Harbor Springs, about 55 miles northeast of Traverse City.
“F/LT. Green’s death is a profound loss for the DNR and for the citizens of the state,” said DNR Law Enforcement Division Chief Gary Hagler in a news release. “He was a dedicated professional who was deeply committed to protecting our nation, its citizens and Michigan’s natural resources. Most recently, F/LT. Green was instrumental in the smooth transition of Belle Isle Park in Detroit to DNR management. He will be greatly missed.
The plane is registered to the Tuskegee Airman National Historical Museum in Detroit, where Green was vice president of the chapter.
