One On One with Mrs. Detroit: Latrice Delgado Macon

Last year in 2019 for the first time, black women held the titles for Miss America, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss Universe. Now in 2020 in Latrice Delgado Macon seeks to continue the legacy.

City.Life.Style: What is Mrs. Michigan?

Latrice Delgado Macon: Mrs. Michigan is the state’s official preliminary to the Mrs. America Pageant and Miss for America Pageant. It is the premier pageant for married women of Michigan and now single women of Michigan.

CLS: What inspired you to pursue becoming Mrs. Detroit/Mrs. Michigan?

Macon: I’m running for Mrs. Michigan because I want to bring awareness on anti bullying. Women and men, boys and girls, have a voice and I want to be a champion for them to be heard. We will not be silenced. Let’s empower one another and fix each other’s crowns! I also feel as though this would be an amazing opportunity to continue serving my community while making a major impact. I want to inspire, encourage and motivate my community to have faith and courage to go after their dreams and know that they can do it.

I’m truly a cheerleader for the growth of the people and creatives within in the city, and have been working hard to be a positive influence and role model for my community.

CLS: How did you become Mrs. Detroit?

Macon: I wanted to represent Detroit because not only do I love my city, I love giving back, learning and I have been part of the development of the city for 20 years now.

CLS: What’s your favorite thing about Detroit?

Macon: My favorite thing about Detroit is all of its History! From Motown, Woodward, to the New Detroit.

CLS: What do you do for a living?

Macon: Above all, I’m a philanthropist! I am also a professor at Wayne County Community College, celebrity wardrobe stylist, business owner of a styling boutique called The Styling Closet, which is a go-to destination for chic, contemporary fashion, and fabulous blogs, designed to help both men and woman identify and have confidence within their personal style, and Executive Chair & Founder of a 501c3 organization called Detroit Fashion Community focused on providing support and resources to the creative community. Outside of wearing all these amazing hats in the fashion industry, I still find time to commit to being a loving and supportive wife to my husband Darnell Macon, and mother to our daughter Laila Macon who has also launched her own baking business and is a dancer at Legacy Dace Studio, and Russian Ballet.
