On Air at 10:30: Whitmer to Receive First Vaccine

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will be receiving her first COVID-19 vaccine at 10:30 a.m. today, WXYZ reports. She will be receiving the vaccine with her daughter by her side at Ford Field.

Watch Whitmer live on WXYZ AT 10:30 a.m. here.

Whitmer will also be on Ford Field with a group of high school students who are motivating their peers to receive the vaccine.

“One of the best ways to limit a child getting COVID is by getting vaccinated,” Protect Michigan Commission Director Kerry Ebersole said in the article.

Ebersole said in the article that school and youth sports are behind the latest spike in COVID-19 cases in the state. Michigan currently tops the nation (per capita) in COVID-19 cases, according to reports.
Whitmer has said in past reports that she does not plan to implement restrictions like she did previously last fall during a COVID-19 spike. She, instead, is encouraging mask-wearing, social distancing, hand washing, and vaccinations. And with the list of those who are eligible growing, she wants to ensure those interested in being inoculated can.
Presently, the Pfizer vaccine is authorized for those 16 and up; the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna are authorized for individuals 18 and older.
