NSO Man in the City Experience

Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO), is hosting its second annual “NSO Man in the City Experience”, Thursday, May 16, at the Detroit Golf Club, located at 17911 Hamilton Road, Detroit, Michigan from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. with a special VIP reception that begins at 6:00 p.m. During the event, there will be an art auction benefitting the most vulnerable populations of our community – the homeless, disabled, youth and elderly.

Inspired by Detroit artist John Suave’s “Man in the City” sculpture project of orange men displayed on rooftops throughout Detroit, Man in the City Experience will feature more than 35 “Man in the City” figures customized by local and nationally renowned artists. Selected artists from around Metro Detroit were provided a basic wood sculpture of the “Man” courtesy of Detroit Woodworking and used the materials and techniques of their choice to design their “Man.” All the sculptures will be auctioned at the NSO “Man in the City Experience” event.

Some of the participating artists include:

  • Kevin (SLAW) Stanislawski
  • Nationally recognized muralist Hubert Massey
  • William Roby
  • Adam Genei and Steve Ryan of MobSteel and the TV show “Detroit Steel”
  • Sculptor and owner of 555 Gallery of Art Carl Goines
  • Dion Vandoekel
  • Antonio “Shades” Agee
  • And more

The year’s honorary chairs of Man in City Experience are Douglass and Dr. Shauna Diggs, along with a dynamic group artists, business and community leaders leaders that make up the event planning committee from Bob Biess, Leanne Blanchette, Rosalind Denning, Caroline Edwards, Heidi Hedquist, Donna Jackson, Janis Kaufman, Michelle Lewis, Jennifer Lyons, DeVona Mashal, Hubert Massey, Claire McCord, David Rudolph and John Sauve.

VIP and general admission tickets are available for the event. VIP tickets include a pre-event champagne reception and VIP reserved seating. All guests will enjoy an interactive art experience with light hors d’ oeuvres, silent and live auctions of the “Man in the City” sculptures, as well as other auction packages.
