The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan announced that more than $7.5 million in grants were made to nonprofit organizations during the third quarter of 2015.
The projects supported cover a wide range of program areas, from arts, culture and recreation to health and human services and economic development.
“These grants are made possible through the generosity of people throughout the region,” said Mariam Noland, president of the Community Foundation. “As a regional community foundation, we are permanent source of community capital for programs that promote lasting change and a good quality of life in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties.”
A few of the programs and organizations that received recent grants are:
- Care House of Oakland County, Inc., Pontiac: $30,000 to support a program for staff who serve trauma survivors.
- Detroit PAL Inc., Detroit: $4,000 to maintain and improve baseball diamonds at St. Hedwig Recreational Center.
- Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Pontiac: $50,000 over three years to expand a program to furnish the homes of low-income families in Wayne County.
- Historic Elmwood Foundation, Detroit: $34,500 for the development of digital audio tours of Historic Elmwood Cemetery.
- InsideOut Literary Arts, Detroit: $30,000 for continued collaboration with ArtOps to increase organizational sustainability.
- InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, Oak Park: $10,000 to expand a religious diversity immersion program for seventh-grade students in Oakland and Wayne County schools.
- Non-Profit Enterprise at Work, Ann Arbor: $30,000 to build organizational capacity and develop a training program for nonprofit organizations in partnership with ZingTrain.
- Racquet Up Detroit, Detroit, $40,000. Support to grow the capacity and impact of a mentoring program focused on squash and academic achievement.
- Regents of University of Michigan Dearborn, Dearborn, $50,000. Support for a Public Allies Metropolitan Detroit program to position Opportunity Youth in nonprofit leadership roles.
