ON Friday, May 13, 2016, the Motor City Kings of Detroit hosted its second annual fight night, an explosive boxing series showcasing both amateur and professional boxers under the direct training of 1985’s IBF Lightweight Champion Jimmie Paul.
The Mitten has birthed many legendary boxers such as, Floyd Mayweather, Thomas Hearns and the one and only, Joe Louis. The show will be held at The Russell, 1600 Clay St., Detroit, MI, 48211.
The event showcased trainees of Jimmie Paul as young as eight years old competing for the UBC North America Title. Contenders throughout the Midwest will box in pound-for-pound match-ups.
The showcase presented by Bare Knuckles Promotions in conjunction with Jimmie Paul Hands on Boxing Gym and Dark Side Promotions, includes a special presentation for the family of Hamzah Aljahmi, a 19-year-old boxer from Dearborn, who died from injuries suffered during his first professional match in December.
“It is important for the amateur boxers to share the ring with the professional boxers, because the amateurs have aspirations to become professional fighters and need to feel the experience,” Paul said. “What better way to reward the amateur athletes than to allow them to showcase their hard work at the same event that professional boxers are featured,” Paul continued.
Pro fighters include:
Antonio Wade(Detroit) 1-0 Super Welterweight
William McElroy(Detroit) 5-0 Welterweight
Albert Bell 6-0(Toledo, OH) ( Albert Bell will be fighting for UBC North American Title Super Featherweight)
John “The Jet” Jackson 16-3 (John Jackson will be fighting for UBC North American Title Welterweight)
Chris Hancock (Detroit) 7-0 Heavyweight
Jarico O’Quinn (Detroit) 1-0 Bantamweight
Robert O’Quinn (Detroit) 2-0 Welterweight
“I believe all fighters on any level carry something that only we understand and related to. It’s easy to identify with other fighters for many different reasons … whether it be a style, a persona, a lifestyle. Fighters can relate and identity with each other all day but I believe real champions or those who aspire to be a champion forge their own identities,” said McElroy.
