New Kiosks Offer Self-Serve Bus Passes for Detroit Transportation Riders

Transit riders can now purchase bus passes via self-serve kiosks at two locations in the city, allowing them to easily purchases passes by cash or card. The kiosks are provided by DivDat, (Diversified Data Processing & Consulting, Inc.), which Detroiters may already be familiar with via their bill payment kiosks.

The bus pass kiosks will allow riders to receive instant payment confirmation, a printed official receipt, and the corresponding fee-specific bus pass from the dispenser unit attached to the payment kiosk. Four-hour, 24-hour, seven-day, and 31-day passes are all available. Reduced fare passes are also available for purchase by eligible riders at the kiosks with previous verification.

Acting on feedback from users, DDOT partnered with DivDat to develop and implement the bus pass dispenser adjunct to its bill payment kiosks in an effort to provide additional self-service options to consumers. Currently, the kiosks are in two locations:

  • Rosa Parks Transit Center: 1310 Cass Ave. at Michigan Ave., Downtown Detroit
  • 100 Mack Ave.: At Woodward, DDOT Administrative Offices

“These self-serve kiosks offer yet another great option for our riders,” says DDOT Executive Director of Transit Mikel Oglesby. â€śRiders now have several ways they can purchase passes – at our kiosks, in-person, or on our Token Transit app. This makes buying passes easier for them, which means a smoother and more stress-free ride on DDOT.”

DivDat has ambassadors on site at both Rosa Parks Transit Center and 100 Mack. The ambassadors will assist riders with using the kiosks so they are familiar and comfortable with the pass buying process.

For now, bus riders can purchase the passes from 7AM to 5PM Monday through Friday. The plan is to eventually have the service available 24 hours a day. Whether the kiosks will be available at more stations or passengers will be able to purchase reusable cards, where riders will be able to put money on a card they currently have, remains to be seen.
