New Detroit’s annual business camp, Camp Enterprise, will convene a total of  120 high school students on the campuses of first Wayne State University and then Michigan State University during July 22- 27.

The camp, which started in 2003 as a one-day gathering, has grown into a five-day session on two campuses.  A second session was added last year due to growing demand and increased sponsorships.  Camp Enterprise instills in their participants leadership skills while exposing business practices and teamwork through their business plan competition.  It also provides many of the students their first look at actually living on a college campus.  The students convene on the Wayne State University campsJuly 22 for the start of the program, spend the night on the campus and then move to Michigan State for the remainder of the camp.

“Michigan State and Wayne State continue to support New Detroit by helping us offer our young people exposure to college at two of the state’s top universities,” said New Detroit president and CEO Shirley R. Stancato.

Major sponsors include Ajax Paving, the Dresner Foundation and the Ford Motor Company Fund. The camp is also sponsored by Wayne State University and Michigan State University.

“Camp Enterprise gives students from the region an opportunity to come together to learn business acumen and professional training from seasoned professionals.” said David Gamlin, director of youth development at New Detroit “More importantly our hands-on business competition trains students to be both entrepreneurs and understand the dynamics of teamwork in the workplace.”

Attendees will be high school juniors and seniors at the start of the 2015-2016 school year who have not previously attended Camp Enterprise. There is no cost to the selected participants. All student selections have been accepted based on eligibility and available seats.
