New COVID-19 Variant, IHU, Found in France

A new COVID-19 variant, IHU, was found in France, FOX 2 News reported.

The variant was found in 12 people who were infected living in an area near Marseilles, a port city in southern France, per the reuport.

Health officials learned that IHU has 46 mutations — even more mutations than seen in omicron.

The cases were tied to travel to Cameroon — a country in West Africa.

The strain has not been confirmed to be seen in other nations.

Across the United States, new COVID-19 cases have tripled in the past two weeks (equaling over 400,000 a day), according to the report.

COVID-19 cases are rising around the state of Michigan, too, with new data that shows nearly one in three residents getting tested for COVID-19 are discovered to have the virus, WXYZ reported.

The state’s positivity rate is now almost at 33-percent, according to WXYZ.

Testing sites have a long wait time (for several hours) at some and, predictably, emergency room visits are busy, too.

“This is really unprecedented to be honest with you,” Chief of Emergency Services at Dearborn Beaumont Dr. Zafar Shamoon said in the article. “I’ve been doing this for 18 years now and I’ve never seen anything like this”
