Black and white image of Nelson Mandela According to YahooNews ^[1], former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nelson Mandela has succumbed to a lung infection after receiving extensive medical care. The political icon had a history of lung problems dating back to when he contracted tuberculosis as a political prisoner.

Mandela, 95, had been in frail health for several years.

South African President Jacob Zuma announced:
