Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan (NLSM), Metro-Detroit’s only organization of its kind offering non-criminal legal advocacy, law-related education and supportive services for individuals and families, hosts inaugural Summer Cruise Benefit in efforts to raise funds to continue their mission in making a difference in local Detroit communities. Funds raised will support programming in advocacy for Housing for the Homeless, Legal Advocacy for victims and survivors of Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence and HIV/Aids and Senior Citizens. The Summer Cruise Benefit will take place on Thursday, August 8 at 6 pm on the Detroit Princess Riverboat. The benefit also includes a silent auction, including a signed Piston’s Jersey.

For more than 53 years, NLSM has continued to serve those who cannot afford legal services, providing legal advocacy, law-related education, and supportive services for individuals and families. Since it’s inception, NLSM has expanded services to include elder law, children’s justice issues, and assistance to domestic violence and human trafficking victims. NLSM continues to pursue social justice and equality and remains a voice for the disadvantaged. On August 8, supporters, advocates, and partners will gather together to enjoy dinner and entertainment on the Detroit Riverboat to party with a purpose, supporting changing the narrative in our communities, and families across Metro Detroit.

Equal justice for all should not be a slogan but a reality for all those who cannot afford legal counsel and representation.  Your support will truly help those who need it the most”, said, Leonard Sanchez, Executive Director of Neighborhood Legal Services. “Please join us for an evening of fun and entertainment as we cruise the Detroit River”.

The mission of NLSM is to serve the citizens of Michigan with quality professional housing counseling, legal and advocacy services by removing barriers that prevent individuals from reaching their fullest potential. The agency serves vulnerable individuals, fragile families, and students in more than 60 schools and communities through the Children’s Education Division. Additionally, through justice initiatives, alliances, community education, and preventive services, NLSM seeks to educate, protect, and strengthen the family. Target populations served by NLSM represent the promise of our communities and the future of humankind. To break the cycle of homelessness, NLSM’s budget counselors provide financial literacy, and through case management services, NLSM provides essential lifestyle training for eligible families. NLSM also contracts with local agencies to assist victims of crime with emergency home security repairs.
