Murals Wrap New Detroit Meijer Store by Local Artists

DETROIT — There are a lot of carts moving, registers ringing, and food tasting inside the newly opened Meijer Rivertown Market in Detroit, but it’s what’s on the outside of the store that makes this place special as well.

Cameron Jenkins is putting his artistic genius and largest piece of work on display.

“This is definitely my favorite,” said Jenkins, as he described his newly unveiled painting in comparison to his previous work. “I think this is the most vibrant one. The most in your face”.

It’s an eye -popping mural on the exterior of the store. It took a few short weeks for it all to come together. Despite Cameron’s creativeness and talent, this project wasn’t easy for him.

“It was hard because I went super detail and I did it all hand and brush which is kind of crazy but it’s what I’m comfortable with and I knew I could get that level of detail I wanted”.

Both he and Désirée Kelly are local artist and were commissioned to create murals that would be visually appealing.

On the Jefferson Ave. side of the building, Kelly painted a picture of her daughter wearing pineapple glasses with producer as her backdrop.

Bursting with a colorful stretch of fruit and vegetable assortments on the Larned St. wall, Cameron is appreciative of the opportunity and excited about his work being more visible and taken to another level.

“It’s a real dope way for me to show my skill and my stories on a bigger larger scale and being able to partner with a company like Meijer is a huge next step”.
