All eyes where on Detroit Thursday morning as host Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ broadcasted live from Wayne State University to discuss trending news topics and the national spotlight on Detroit’s comeback.
The influential cable news morning show notable guests included former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, Sr. Adviser to the POTUS, Valerie Jarrett, billionaire investment icon Warren Buffett, Detroit businessman/developer Dan Gilbert and Gov. Rick Snyder.
The three-hour show covered national and world news from the current issues with the NFL to Scotland’s independence vote. However, Detroit’s comeback was theme and main discussion for guests of the show.

Morning Joe’ host, Joe Scarborough spoke passionately about Detroit being the blueprint for what comeback in America should mirror, especially with the reinvestment in technology and start-ups by large private sector companies like Rock Ventures and Dan Gilbert.

As an owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert was also put on the hot seat regarding his thoughts on the issues of domestic abuse and player integrity that is currently plaguing the NBA. “It’s hard to know what is going on behind the curtain, they are going to have to get it right and I believe they will.” When asked his thoughts on the Cavaliers’ upcoming season, Gilbert laughs and replied, “We’ll be better than we were last year.”
Detroit’s national influence became the topic of discussion with political and business experts Valerie Jarrett and Warren Buffett.

Snyder addressed the long-time divide between Detroit and the rest of Michigan, saying that seems to be going away. “Regionalism is working,” he said.
“I hope people are proud all across Michigan of what’s going on here,” Snyder added. ” People are excited. Young professionals are viewing Detroit as the place to be in the country right now.”

Yet the highlight of the broadcast were the graduates from Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program who represented one of the many avenues on how Detroit will comeback: Small Businesses.

The show came during a “Detroit Homecoming” conference sponsored by Crain’s Detroit Business for more than 120 professionals who left the area.
