Motor City Match Celebrates Major Milestone: Mayor and City Officials Inaugurate 150th Business, Dream Estates Assisted Living Facility

Thursday July 20, Motor City Match, an innovative program aimed at reviving Detroit’s economy, is marking a significant milestone – the opening of its 150th business, an assisted living facility called Dream Estates. The grand inauguration, hosted by the city’s Mayor Mike Duggan, City Council President Mary Sheffield, Council Member Angela Whitfield-Calloway, and Kevin Johnson, the President and CEO of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, is set to take place at 12:30 PM.

Dream Estates is nestled in the heart of the Greenfield neighborhood. The facility is a product of the entrepreneurial spirit and social responsibility of Melvie Berkery, Monica Wimbush, and Dr. Cynane Robinson. With the evident absence of quality assisted living facilities in Detroit, these three women embarked on a journey to transform the status quo. They envisaged a place where seniors and those with disabilities could enjoy life with dignity and without compromise.

Over the past few years, Motor City Match has played a pivotal role in the economic rejuvenation of Detroit. Through 22 rounds of financial assistance, the initiative has awarded $12.9 million in grants, acting as a lifeline for startups and new businesses across the city.

Today’s celebration of the 150th business is more than a mere milestone for Motor City Match. It signifies the growth and resilience of Detroit’s local economy. As Dream Estates opens its doors today, it offers not only a safe haven for the city’s elderly and disabled but also contributes to the tapestry of goods, services, and job opportunities weaved by the program.
