Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit takes a nostalgic trip back in time to visit “the real Santa Claus” at the old J.L. Hudson’s 12th floor Toyland in its exuberant holiday production, Woodward Wonderland: A Detroit Holiday Celebration, presented by the DTE Energy Foundation.  The original play with music fondly remembers Detroit holiday traditions like Noel Night, skating at Campus Martius Park, and the Thanksgiving Day parade down Woodward Avenue. Since its first production in December of 2006, Mosaic’s Woodward Wonderland has become an annual holiday tradition for families from throughout Metropolitan Detroit.  On Thursday, December 12 – Sunday, December 15, Mosaic will present Woodward Wonderland at the Detroit Film Theatre inside the Detroit Institute of Arts, capturing the warmth, joy, and laughter of celebrating the holidays with those that you love.
Woodward Wonderland is filled with the rich music of the season, from the Hallelujah Chorus to the old Motown Christmas albums and features a tribute to animated TV holiday classics.  One segment of the show, “Home for the Holidays” lovingly portrays a family holiday celebration made brighter with the surprise return of a serviceman from overseas. On Saturday, December 14th, Mosaic is having a special 2:00 pm family matinee performance with a visit from Santa and other surprises! Special discount tickets are available for all military families and veterans for the Saturday family matinee.
“Woodward Wonderland is definitely a feel-good family event” says Mosaic President and Artistic Director, Rick Sperling. “With more than 100 gifted young actors, singers and dancers on stage, get ready for an avalanche of youthful enthusiasm and a new appreciation for all the good our city has to offer.”
Woodward Wonderland will be presented at the Detroit Film Theatre within the DIA, at 5200 Woodward Ave. (John R. entrance.) Tickets for all performances can be purchased at the DIA box office by calling (313) 833-4005, or can be purchased online at www.mosaicdetroit.org. Tickets are $24 for general admission and $16 for students and seniors with valid ID.
