You may have noticed that there is a new voice driving the CBS Evening News.
In a voiceover change that began Monday, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman is now introducing evening news anchor Katie Couric, replacing the distinctive voice of Walter Cronkite.
The decision to replace Cronkite’s voice, which was recorded in 2006 when Couric moved to CBS from NBC, came nearly six months after his death on July 17 last year.
According to Sean McManus, CBS News and Sports president, Freeman’s voice gives the network the flexibility to prerecord different intros when Couric is out on special assignment.
