The seemingly constant news of countless unarmed black men and women being killed by the police now seems to be commonplace.
Walter Scott, 50, was killed by Officer Michael Slager on April 4, 2015 in North Charleston.
During the trial jurors failed to agree to a verdict as they were just one vote away from a verdict. As a result, the judge called for a mistrial.
Slager was facing a 30-year to life sentence if convicted of murder. If convicted of manslaughter, he faced a sentence of 2 to 30 years.
“I’m not sad,” Scott’s mother Judy Scott said. “I know that justice will be served.”
“I don’t care what men say. I don’t care how it looks,” she said. “It’s not over. You all hear me, it’s not over ’till God says it’s over.”
