If you’re a 2000’s Hip-Hop and R&B fan, you might have been part of the sold out crowd at Little Caesars Arena this past weekend that welcomed the 2025 Millennium Tour. The tour’s second stop made its way to Detroit and the energy in the building was immense, both on stage and in the crowd. Celebrated artists Trey Songz, Omarion, Bow Wow, Plies, Lloyd, Ying Yang Twins, RSVP (Ray J , Sammie, Bobby V, Pleasure P) and Nivea all performed with a special guest performance by Rick Ross.
After a successful 2022 Millennium Tour, which happened to be honored with the “2022 Rap Tour of the Year” Billboard Award, the Black Promoters Collective announced late last year this year’s 24 city tour, which kicked off in Louisville, Kentucky last Friday. The Black Promoters Collective (BPC) is a coalition of six of the nation’s top independent concert promotion and event production companies. The 100% black owned company has been responsible for organizing and producing hundreds of concerts and events, focused on putting together culturally relevant live entertainment while reinvesting in our community.
The lines started to form outside of Little Caesars Arena before the doors opened in anticipation of the night. From start to finish of the show, it was easy to not only feel, but be immersed in the excitement and enthusiasm.
R&B songstress Nivea opened the show and had fans singing along to her song “Laundromat”, the hit she is most notable for from the early 2000s. She was followed in the lineup by the Hip Hop duo Ying Yang Twins. They were sure to bring the crowd to their feet, and they did, as their hit songs Salt Shaker, Get Low, and others are notable for brining liveliness to any environment when played.
The show went from the club style music of the Ying Yang Twins to a much slower set that really treated the ladies in the audience to the songs from four R&B artists that have come together to form the group RSVP. Members Ray J, Sammie, Bobby Valentino and Pleasure P took turns on stage performing many of their hit songs they have had over the years as well as the song they created and released together. Each of the artist in RSVP have been known for their bold and sexy style and they brought that to the stage for the show. Adding to their performance, Bobby Valentino wooed the ladies in the audience by throwing out roses and Ray J appeared in the crowd serenading some of the fans as he walked the aisles.
Boosie and then Plies got the audience back into the Hip Hop genre after RSVP. Boosie came out to his song “Wipe Me Down” getting everyone in the arena back on their feet and amped up again. The entire venue was up singing and dancing to his songs during his time on the stage. Plies followed Boosie, keeping the crowd energized and performing a number of his songs like “Shawty”, “Bust It” and singing the verse he was on from Jeezy’s “Lose My Mind” track and Usher’s “Hey Daddy” song.
Keeping in line with Hip Hop, the show continued with a special guest on the tour, Rick Ross, coming to take the stage. Wearing a black and white Louis Vuitton jumpsuit complete with the shoes to match, Ross kept the party in the arena going with songs like “Hustlin”, “Aston Martin Music”, and more.
After Ross, Bow Wow emerged coming up from an opening in the front center of the stage and without a doubt, performed a lively set featuring a number of his hits. Most of the artists performing were active but Bow Wow danced and ran from one side of the stage to the other during his entire set engaging fans all across the venue. As a surprise to many, Bow Wow also brought out two artists on stage as guests on his set. Peezy and then Icewear Vezzo, both Detroit rappers, came out and performed songs in front of the at capacity crowd.
The Millennium Tour fans had already been treated to a full night of entertainment, but there were still two artists left. Despite the long lineup of talent, the show stayed on schedule and the break between each artist was not too lengthy. In a couple of cases, one performer went off and the next came on within minutes. Where there was any type of short delay, the DJs did a great job to keep the crowd alive.
Multiplatinum and Grammy nominated artist Omarion had his time on stage after Bow Wow. The former singer of the group B2K is also recognized for his dance moves, and well of course he had a number of male and female dancers onstage with him to make his set even move entertaining. Known for hits like “Post To Be” (f. Chris Brown) and “Ice Box”, Omarion put on show that had fans talking about it when it was over well into the night.
Closing out the tour was none other than R&B sensation Trey Songz. The chart topping singer came up from and opening in the floor, bringing any of those fans not already standing to their feet and drawing screams from the ladies that were there. Performing hits like {“I Invented”, “Neighbors Know My Name”, and “Na Na”, Songz had the arena reminiscing and realizing hits that they had forgotten over his two decades on the scene. Songz also pleasantly shocked fans bringing out Detroit’s own Skilla Baby who performed during the set.
Needless to say, Detroit Hip Hop and R&B fans were elated to what they were treated to by all of the artists that came on stage. If you missed this one, catching the tour in one of the other 23 cities could be an option. Or keep a look out, it seems as if this has become a recurring tour which comes around every couple years (the last one in 2022) so there’s always the possibility that the BPC will bring it back again in the future.
