Women Share Personal Stories, Discuss Hillary’s Lifetime Record of Fighting for Families and Children at Events in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint, Lansing, Traverse City, Other Communities Across State
As part of a nationwide push to continue directly engaging women voters, Michigan women supporting Hillary Clinton launched 34 women-to-women organizing events across the state this week. The push, part of a Women’s Week of Action, includes phone banks, canvasses, and voter registration drives in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint, Lansing, Traverse City and other communities across the state. At the events, Michigan women focused on the importance of electing Hillary Clinton as the first female president, along with other Democratic women on the ballot who will fight for the issues that matter to Michigan women and their families.
This new push is an effort to engage women voters on key issues that Hillary Clinton has been fighting for her entire life, including job creation, small business growth, increasing the minimum wage, closing the wage gap, and making education and college more affordable and accessible for students and their families. Michigan’s Women’s Week of Action included a visit from special guest Randi Weingarten, the President of the American Federation of Teachers. During her visit to a local phone bank in Southfield, Weingarten discussed Clinton’s longtime efforts to expand opportunity for children, including ensuring that students get a quality education no matter the zip code they are born in. Former State Representative Vicki Barnett also joined in kicking off Week of Action events.
“Hillary Clinton has spent her entire career fighting for the issues that matter most to women and working families. She’s committed to helping families find ways to make child care and college affordable, to creating good paying new jobs and to reinvesting in public education so our kids can acquire the skills and knowledge they need to pursue their dreams. She has a long history of supporting educators—the majority of whom are women. I was honored to help launch today’s phonebank, which allows women to talk directly with other women voters and make the case for why Hillary Clinton is the best candidate for working families and our children,” said Weingarten.
“Hillary Clinton has always been a role model and trailblazer for women, and I’m thrilled to support her campaign to become the first female president,” said Barnett. “Hillary Clinton will make history not only as the first female president, but also as the most qualified candidate to ever run for president. I’m confident that with her experience as former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State, she will will lead our nation forward and make it better for all Americans, together.”
Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit to be president, and his presidency would be a disaster for Michigan women. He has called women “pigs,” “dogs” and “disgusting,” and has also suggested that women who experience sexual harassment in the workplace should find another job. He has also previously suggested that women would attain equal pay if they would just “do as good a job” as men, and he even went so far as to call pregnancy an “inconvenience” to employers.
