The Michigan Veterans Foundation and local troops got a boost this weekend thanks to Parts Galore, a local Detroit-based auto parts supplier. Parts Galore hosted its first ever Summer Car Show on Saturday, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to the Michigan Veterans Foundation.

The show featured classic and noteworthy cars from community members and all participants took home trophies and dash plaques to commemorate the afternoon.

“The generosity and unselfishness displayed by companies like Parts Galore, and people like Tony, is essential for the Michigan Veterans Foundation to continue to provide support and maintain our programs to assist local veterans,” said Michigan Veterans Foundation executive director Tyrone Chatman.

Parts Galore’s regional manager Tony Murell, a veteran, was inspired to host the event to benefit the Michigan Veterans Foundation after seeing their commitment to providing critical assistance and services to veterans in southeast Michigan.

“As a veteran, I know all too well how the gaps in our government let veterans down. I cannot say enough about the committed work that the Michigan Veterans Foundation does every day to support our veterans in southeast Michigan,” said Murell. “That dedication to focusing benefits and resources to help our local veterans lead me to work with and help Michigan Veterans Foundation in any way we can.”

The Michigan Veterans Foundation recently broke ground on a new facility for the Detroit Veterans Center — a transitional housing facility and resource center that provides the skills and confidence needed for homeless veterans to break the cycle of homelessness and return to independent living.
