Over halfway through the season, the Big Ten Conference may have their representative for the college football playoff. The Michigan State Spartans have undoubtedly proved that they are an elite team not in their conference, but also the entire country. The Indiana Hoosiers were the latest victims standing in Sparty’s way as MSU was able to overcome a slow start to win easily 56-17 in Bloomington. Junior quarterback Connor Cook threw for three scores and running back Jeremy Langford ran or another three scores. MSU now holds a 6-1 record and are 3-0 in the Big Ten while Indiana to 3-4 and 0-3 in the conference.
Though the Spartans are known for their stellar defense, they allowed a season-high 213 yard on the ground to an Indiana team that features Heisman Trophy candidate Tevin Coleman. Coleman was the only bright spot for Indiana as quarterback Zander Diamont struggled for the Hoosiers passing for only 11 yards on just five completions. After Diamont scored on a nine yard run to put the Hoosiers up 17-14, the Spartans ran up the score, scoring 42 unanswered points. The only goal left for MSU this season is to beat Ohio State and that would more than likely secure the conference title for the second year in a row. The Spartans have not one back-to-back Big Ten titles since the 1980s. With their showdown against in-state rival Michigan, MSU will look to knock off Michigan for the seventh time in right tries and show them that they are no longer little brother.
