Opera Workshop students, Learning at the Opera House’s most advanced students, will present a voice recital on Wednesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at Boll Hall. A final vocal performance of excerpts from La Traviata by the Opera Workshop is Sunday, August 4 at 3 p.m. on the Detroit Opera House’s main stage. Photos of Detroit, taken by inter-generational participants of Learning at the Opera House’s Lens on the City program, will be displayed in the lobby during intermission.
Operetta Workshop is a three-week day camp designed for young people aged 12 to 18 to learn acting, singing and dancing, as well as healthy voice care. Participants will learn and perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta Patience on the Detroit Opera House main stage. The fully staged and costumed production is directed by Julie Smith, with instructor Wendy Bloom and accompanist Joseph Jackson.
Opera Workshop is an intense two-week program designed for advanced singers who want to hone their vocal and acting skills. This unique program allows students to participate in recitative and movement classes, instruction in stage makeup and stage combat, and foreign language diction taught by distinguished professors and internationally renowned conductors. Final staged performances of opera scenes, directed by Alaina Brown, will be presented on the Detroit Opera House’s main stage.
Lens on the City is a three-day inter-generational program. Participants will experience exclusive photo tours of downtown Detroit. Budding photographers receive instruction on photography basics from a professional photographer, and their photos are displayed during the intermission of Opera Workshop’s final performance.
