Michigan Opera Theatre Launches “MOT at Home” Providing Daily Online Content

Social distancing has eliminated traditional live entertainment for the foreseeable future. The Pistons and Red Wings seasons are currently suspended, the Tigers opening day has been postponed and all upcoming concerts are being rescheduled or canceled.

Recently, some entertainers have turned to social media to not only keep their audiences engaged, but also to inspire and uplift in during unprecedented times. The Michigan Opera Theatre is joining that trend.

“During this time of social distancing, Michigan Opera Theatre seeks to serve and remain connected with our loyal supporters who value our shared love of opera, dance and other performing arts,” said Michigan Opera Theatre President and CEO Wayne S. Brown.

“MOT at Home” is providing daily digital opera and dance content on Michigan Opera Theatre’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Facebook and Twitter will be categorized into five weekly categories:

  • “Opera Fix

Blogs, recordings, fun facts, etc. about opera

  • “Dance Fix

Blogs, online performances, fun fact, etc. About dance

  • Studio Artist Performances

Remote performances from members of the MOT Studio

  • Met Opera preview

Facebook Live opera talk given ahead of select performances of the Metropolitan Opera’s “Nightly Opera Stream”

  • Podcast

MOT staff and artists share their expertise on different aspects of opera and dance

Michigan Opera Theatre Studio Artists will takeover their Instagram account providing performances, interviews and behind-the-scenes content on the life of an opera singer.

“Although we are unable at the moment to provide live performances for you in the Detroit Opera House, we hope the digital performances and informative content of ‘MOT at Home’ may be a source of inspiration, comfort and hope,” says Brown.

“MOT at Home” comes following the cancellation of its 2020 spring season in compliance with state and federal regulations to combat COVID-19.
