Michigan has confirmed that there are now 787 positive COVID-19 cases in the State of Michigan. More cases are arising due to increased testing, which is updated at 2 PM from the MDHHS (Michigan Department of Health and Human Services). Additionally, there are now five confirmed COVID-19 related deaths in Michigan, ranging from Oakland County, Detroit to Wayne County.
On March 20, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer talked about the possibility of a state shutdown. She stated that there isn’t a shelter order in place, but further news could come from the State of Michigan. “I am not calling for martial law. That is a rumor and it is false. And it’s dangerous for people to foment fear and put out bad information,” Whitmer said. “We are constantly monitoring because the information is changing so rapidly. If and when we feel it’s an important next move, I will personally communicate that to the public. We are not there. Every decision we make has ramifications. They weigh heavily on me and my team.”
Here are preventative measures you can use to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, specifically after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home if you’re sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
