Congratulations are in order for the finalists of the 2019 Michigan Chronicle S.W.A.G. (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) Scholarship Awards presented by Chemical Bank. The 13 finalists were selected from hundreds of applications which required the students to outline their personal vision for success and demonstrate a commitment to integrity and community service. Each of the students is guaranteed a scholarship of between $2,000-$10,000 towards secondary education. The finalists will learn which scholarship they are receiving during an awards ceremony in their honor Wednesday, May 15 at the Detroit Athletic Club in Detroit.
Started in 2015, the S.W.A.G. Scholarship Awards are not awarded solely based on academic performance, requiring that students have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5, but were specifically created to ensure that more Detroit students that demonstrate leadership in multiple areas, other than grades, have access to scholarships. The awards continually seek to identify students who have demonstrated a commitment to community, service and integrity.

- Zaria Pope, Cass Technical High School
- Austin Raymond, University of Detroit Jesuit High School
- Dustin Sims, University High School Academy
- Dorian Smalley, Renaissance High School
- Maya Solomon, Cass Technical High School
- Monet Stewart, Chippewa Valley High School
- Taylor Vasser, Detroit Edison Public School Academy for Early College Excellence
