Michigan Central Station Reopens: Here’s How to Get Free Tickets to Join the Celebration

Starting May 21 at 12 p.m. ET, Michigan Central Station will open ticket registration for Michigan Central OPEN, a community celebration from June 6 to June 16. This event marks the reopening of the historic Michigan Central Station, restored by Ford Motor Company.

The celebration, hosted by Ford and Michigan Central, begins with an opening night concert on June 6. Produced by Emmy-winning Jesse Collins Entertainment, the concert will feature legendary Detroit performers. Jesse Collins Entertainment is known for creating memorable television moments, including Super Bowl Halftime Shows. The concert will also be available via livestream.

“There’s no place like Detroit, and we’re excited to showcase the city’s incredible artists,” said Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment. “We’re creating a welcome party for Michigan Central that celebrates Detroit’s unique performers.”

From June 7 to June 16, Michigan Central will host a 10-day open house, allowing the public to explore the restored station. Visitors can tour the building, learn about its history, and glimpse its future. The open house will feature exhibits, entertainment, and art, turning the space into a cultural hub.

Dionne Harmon, President of Jesse Collins Entertainment, expressed her excitement: “We’re thrilled to honor Detroit with a night of celebration, community, and music. Detroit’s impact on music and culture is undeniable, and we’re excited to spotlight its legacy with the reopening of Michigan Central.”

Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, SVP of Specials at Jesse Collins Entertainment, added: “We’re bringing Detroit’s legendary performers together at Michigan Central. The city’s rich history will shine through the production, promising an evening of vibrant performances and surprises.”

The celebration kicks off with “Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central,” a 90-minute outdoor event headlined by Detroit’s stars. The event will feature short films, local leaders, and creators sharing stories of innovation and culture from across the city and region. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

From June 7 to June 16, the open house offers the public a look inside the restored station. Visitors can enjoy music, local entertainment, and learn about innovation and community events at Michigan Central. Food, drinks, and commemorative souvenirs will be available for purchase.

Mary Culler, chair of Michigan Central, stated, “After a six-year restoration by Ford and many others, Michigan Central Station will re-open, reimagined as a place of innovation and culture open to all. This is a historic moment for Detroit, and we’re inviting everyone to join us for the station’s next chapter.”

Originally opened in 1913, Michigan Central Station was once the tallest train depot in the world. However, changing travel preferences led to its closure in 1988, leaving it vacant until Ford acquired the property in 2018. Since then, over 3,100 workers have dedicated more than 1.7 million hours to restore the station’s architectural grandeur while updating its infrastructure.

The station is set to become a vibrant public destination, serving as the centerpiece of the Michigan Central technology and cultural hub. With 640,000 square feet of retail, hospitality, event, and collaborative innovation spaces, the station will attract technology talent and diverse businesses, contributing to Detroit’s greenway plan to create a more connected city.

Following its reopening in June, Michigan Central will undergo a phased reactivation, with the first floor open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer. Expanded hours will be announced in the fall, coinciding with the first phase of commercial activations.
