Some Detroit neighborhood businesses will see a boost in funding, $500,000 to be exact from the Michigan Central Station, FOX 2 News reported.
Michigan Central serves as an open platform for partnerships, uniting innovators, well-known brands, educators, policymakers, foundations and investors in a unique urban ecosystem to co-create mobility solutions that can help make the world more accessible for everyone. Michigan Central is a mobility district located in Detroit’s historic Corktown neighborhood.
The new $500,000 fund will help neighborhood businesses in and around the area to help increase education, training, and entrepreneurial acumen among owners and workers, according to the article.
The financial commitment will assist around 25 nearby businesses that create the nascent innovation district that is being developed around the defunct Detroit train station, according to the article.
“With Michigan Central being an open platform for partnership, we wanted to include nonprofit partners who could help us bring meaningful community engagement through this program,” said Clarinda Barnett-Harrison, the community impact lead with Michigan Central in the article. “We think it could bring big changes such as new employment, additional locations and expanded footprints, even new or enhanced e-commerce operations for participating businesses.”
The funds will go toward a business academy that “will feature a menu-style series of courses in business development and online business education” according to a Wednesday press release. Participants could also select courses customized toward their business goals and plans, the article added.
