Michigan can't wait to suppress black votes

Empty voting booths are exactly what Republicans want in black neighborhoods
Empty voting booths are exactly what Republicans want in black neighborhoods on Election Day 2018, 2020, and beyond

Since 2013, a total of 868 polling places have been wiped out according to the Rev. Jesse Jackson who delivered that sobering report two weeks ago at the University of Michigan when receiving an award for his 50 years of civil rights service. Most of those polling places were on college campuses or locations in non-white neighborhoods likely to vote Democratic. Not surprisingly this doesn’t sit well with Republicans, many of whom quite obviously view the browning of America as a threat to power so they are doing anything and everything to diminish the voting power of non-white people.
On Thursday in the Michigan Legislature, a set of bills made its way through the House Elections committee that would require stricter voter identification measures at the polls. That legislation is now on its way to the House for a full vote according to a report from Michigan Radio, which adds that the bills would require voters to prove their identity within 10 days of casting a provisional ballot if they don’t have a photo ID with them at the polls.
As usual, the Republicans are saying this is only to protect the integrity of the voting process. Except that they have no evidence to back up their wobbly assertions that the process is now or has ever been overrun with voter fraud. As a matter of fact, that argument has been shot down in pretty much every state in the union. Widespread voter fraud is a myth manufactured to overshadow the real agenda of stealing non-white votes by suppressing them – or deporting them.
