The Michigan House of Representative voted on March 21 to get rid of the current ranking system for public schools and well as the Michigan Department of Education’s annual list of underperforming and failing schools, according to WOOD-TV.com.
According to Matt Schuller, an official with the Michigan Association for Superintendents and Administrators, the grading system “is the least effective.”
“It can be misleading by trying to reduce every single school building to a grade,” he told WOOD-TV.com.
The ranking, which Republican-led legislature passed in 2018, graded the schools ‘A’ to ‘F’. The current state, controlled by Democrats, repealed the measure 63-45.
