Vaccine mandates could impact the business world in more ways than one, and Michigan chamber of commerce are hoping to make a dent in President Joe Biden’s new vaccine mandates, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
The Coalition “Listen to Michigan Businesses” reported that the business entities think that the new vaccine mandates by Biden could negatively impact business owners beyond the virus alone, according to the article.
“We hope that our voice will be heard by the Michigan Congressional Delegation and they will urge the president to reconsider,” said Rich Studley, Michigan Chamber of Commerce in the article.
Federal vaccine mandate for business owners are anticipated to be in motion possibly this week, and the nascent coalition are trying to get Biden’s attention on the matter.
Studley, who leads the state’s chamber of commerce, says that every state is different and not all of the businesses are alike.
At the very least, the group wants Biden to think about the rule-making process to let Michigan workers and business owners to have significant say int the standard, according to the article.
Biden tapped the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to make the rules – which will require a vaccine mandate for businesses with over 100 employees, according to the article. Employee who refuses will have to be tested weekly or lose their job, the article added.
“Ultimately it puts job suppliers in a really tough position,” said Andy Johnston, Grand Rapids chamber in the article. “From both a political and just logistical position, trying to enforce mandates when we actually see what the rules are.”
“Employers shouldn’t be asked to shoulder this responsibility alone,” said Warren Call of Traverse Connect. “It is the right goal – but the wrong tactic to get there.”
