McDonald’s shut down its U.S. corporate offices for “a few days” to prepare for upcoming layoffs, the Detroit Free Press reported earlier this morning.

The U.S. corporate staff and some of the overseas staff were told to work from home while they wait to hear if they will be let go this week, according to an internal memo obtained by The Wall Street Journal.

The restaurant has a 150,000 employees working in its corporate offices, with 70 percent of them outside of the U.S., said the Detroit Free Press.

How these layoffs will affect the frontline workers is unknown. According to Zippia.com, 12 percent of the restaurant staffs are Black.
