Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and members of Detroit City Council and the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners are joining forces with the city’s faith communities for “Devotion in Detroit.”
The joint venture ceremony is intended to celebrate the city of Detroit’s future.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan was sworn in on New Years Day, however today the Mayor, city officials and members of the faith community was invited out to celebrate their ‘Devotion To Detroit”
Due to the financial issues in the city, the Mayor did not want to do an official inauguration ceremony, but wanted to do something that celebrated where Detroit is headed.
Mayor Mike Duggan urged Detroiters to stay, “If you live in the city of Detroit and you’re sick of the blight and crime, just wait, don’t move yet. A change is coming.
A change the Mayor Duggan says will be noticeable very soon. “I think people in six months will know if this mayor and this city council will succeed or not. All the problems will be solved, because there is a long way to go, but people will be able to measure.
Duggan started his term as mayor last Wednesday. He has limited powers because state-appointed emergency manager Kevyn Orr controls Detroit’s finances. Orr and Duggan have an agreement in place to share some of the decisions in running the city.
