Lupita Nyong’o shows off new Afro look

It is hard to fathom anymore that, just a decade ago, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o was ostracized and humiliated and demeaned becuase of her cocoa-coated skin and close-cropped hair by her fellow citizens in Mexico.

We wonder what those dastardly and small-minded tormentors are thinking now that Nyong’o has metamorphed from an unknown rookie actor into a worldwide fashion superstar whose every move has been captured on the cover of the most prestigious magazines in the world.

The 12 Years a Slave star debuted her curly Afro at Disney’s D23 Expo last weekend, where the Academy Award winning actress was promoting her roles in “The Queen of Katwe,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and the live-action version of “The Jungle Book,” which features her voice as mother wolf Raksha.

“Geekin’ out at #Disney #d23expo.” Captioned the photo on Instagram.

Until now, Nyong’o’s vintage look was a close-cropped, sleek hairstyle.

During the expo and panel discussion, Lupita said she’s ready to expand her acting chops across all genres.

“I’m really dying to be in a comedy,” Nyong’o told People. “I’d love to be in a love story! How about some of that?”

“I’ve been lucky to work so extensively with Disney,” she said. “Star Wars is another world altogether. And to be able to have that experience and be a part of that continuation of Han Solo and Luke and Leia’s journey is really a blessing, to be able to play a small part in that. And then Jungle Book is another world altogether as well.”

“The Queen of Katwe,” tells the true story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, who was raised in a Ugandan slum and went on to become a Woman Candidate Master in chess. Nyong’o will play Phiona’s mother.

“Queen of Katwe, which is in our real world, and again is a magical and real story of a girl who had a dream to be a chess master,” Lupita said. “And through hard work and complete commitment to it she went against all odds and achieved that and that’s something I really believe in.”

The entertainment publication said that after Nyong’o finished her duties at the expo, she got turned up at Disneyland – posting this picture and taking a spin on Splash Mountain.
