Resident rap ambassador for the Dirty South, Ludacris, hosted a private screening of the “ATL Rise” during the celebrity-rich Luda Day Weekend extravaganza,
The Vh1 documentary, “ATL: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Rise in the Rap Game” takes hip hop heads on a foray back to the meteoric rise of Atlanta as a force in the bicoastal rap game.
The film chronicles the fertile musical landscape in the Capitol of the New South, also called the Dirty South, in the post-civil rights Atlanta. Civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., former U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young and legendary former mayor Maynard Jackson facilitated a sociopolitical and social environment conducive for African American arts and culture to thrive, thus facilitating a fruitful ambience for a local hip-hop scene to emerge.
