Local Art Student PSA’s Will Make You Laugh

Art imitates life, and students at a local college are using that fact to attract others to a cause that is near and dear to their hearts.

Aspiring artists at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, MI have created a series of PSA’s adapted from concepts seen in some of the most classic works of art. One example is the statement that getting into art will cause your brain to turn into the egg version of Edvard Munch’s painting ‘The Scream’. It’s a fancy adaptation of the horrific 1980s PSA that likened a person’s brain on drugs to a fried egg.

As a theme, the announcements tend to spoof the entire experience of the student artist, comparing it to such taboo subjects as sex, drugs, and entertainment. Another example includes the faded out picture of five young people supplemented by the quote, ‘1 in 5 teenagers will experiment with art’. The sayings appear to reflect ones we’ve heard frequently in other well known PSAs about a variety of controversial subjects.

Overall, the PSAs are a great way to draw a crowd by using widely recognized concepts from pop culture, and interweaving them with the experiences of student artists. The clever ads have gone viral since their initial introduction the website ‘My Modern Met’.

What an innovation way to make a statement!
