LaunchDETROIT is currently seeking entrepreneurs in the Detroit region to apply online at www.LaunchDetroit.org for this multi-faceted program, which offers a combination of free business training, micro loans of up to $2,500, assigned business mentors, and networking opportunities.
The mission of LaunchDETROIT is to support and develop entrepreneurs and small businesses in under-resourced communities in the Detroit region. Since the program was introduced in 2013 by Rotary volunteers in District 6400, it has achieved national attention and international recognition from Rotary International, the world’s oldest service organization headquartered in Evanston, Illinois.
“We’re now accepting applications for our fourth class of entrepreneurs,” said Rotarian Lawrence Wright, president of the LaunchDETROIT initiative, which is seeking to include more entrepreneurs in the Detroit region. “We’re very fortunate to have Baker College of Allen Park as a partner to provide free business training classes, and to Level One Bank which will be providing financial literacy education as well.”
To learn more about LaunchDETROIT, interested entrepreneurs are invited to attend any of three informational Open Houses scheduled at the following locations in Detroit:
June 15, 4:30 – 6 p.m., Will Leather Goods, 4120 2nd Ave.
June 21, 5:30 – 7 p.m., Level One Bank, 1420 Washington Blvd.
June 22, 4:30 – 6 p.m., Ponyride, 1401 Vermont St.
At each Open House, attendees will have the opportunity to receive more detailed information and to talk with LaunchDETROIT entrepreneurs, who will share how the program has helped them grow their businesses.
The deadline to apply online for the LaunchDETROIT program is July 22, 2016. Qualifying applicants will be interviewed in August. Successful candidates must have a business product or service that will enable them to repay their loan within one year through regular installments.
Upon completion of required business classes that begin in September and end with business plan presentations in December, the LaunchDETROIT selection committee will interview candidates for micro-loans to be awarded in January 2017.
“This is a program that continues to evolve and improve with every class of entrepreneurs,” added Wright. “It’s the personal testimonials of our entrepreneurs and their business mentors along with our LaunchDETROIT partners and volunteers that confirm we’re moving in the right direction.”
