Larry Spruill Jr. joined WDIV-TV Local 4 in Detroit as a News Reporter in January 2018.
Since then, he has covered several large stories such as the Dayton Mass Shooting, Aretha Franklin’s Funeral. He was also one of the lead reporters while covering COVID-19 and the protests addressing racial equality in Detroit.
Before coming to Detroit, he worked at WJAX-TV in Jacksonville, Florida, making a name for himself there also, covering breaking news stories and the weather. When Hurricane Irma came blowing through Florida, he was one of the lead reporters working around the clock.
Prior to WJAX, Spruill also worked for WJCL-TV in Savannah, Georgia and WGXA-TV in Macon, Georgia. He started his career at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia.
He grew up as a military kid because his father is a Retired Chief of the United States Air Force. He’s traveled to many countries but went to high school and college in Georgia and graduated from Valdosta State University, in Valdosta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Mass Media.
Spruill enjoys food, music and working out. He’s a licensed minister and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and the National Association of Black Journalists.
