Former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s financial records will remain private for the time being. Kilpatrick’s lawyer, Michael Alan Schwartz, filed a protective order motion on Friday, according to published reports.

At press time, Wayne Circuit Judge David Groner had not ruled on the motion.

Prosecutors charge that by not providing information about his finances, Kilpatrick has violated his probation. The former mayor had previously been ordered by Groner to provide more details about his finances, as well as his wife’s. An Oct. 29 hearing has been set concerning whether Kilpatrick has violated the terms of his probabtion.

Kilpatrick owes the city $1 million in restitution. How soon he should be required to pay that amount is a bone of contention between him and prosecutors.
