Former Vice President Kamala Harris has revealed new details about the conversation she had with President Donald Trump after conceding the 2024 election.

In excerpts from her upcoming memoir, “107 Days,” obtained by the New York Times, Harris recalled her post-election phone call with Trump, whom she urged to help unify the country.

“It was a lost cause,” she writes.

Trump, Harris said, did respond warmly to her remarks during the call.

“I am going to be so nice and respectful. You are a tough, smart customer, and I say that with great respect. And you also have a beautiful name. I got use of that name, it’s Kamala,” Trump reportedly told Harris.

Harris noted that Trump pronounced her name correctly, something he repeatedly failed to do during the campaign.

“107 Days,” set to be released next week, follows Harris’ historic presidential campaign after former President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. In her memoir, Harris also reveals that she considered choosing former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as her running mate.

“He would have been an ideal partner,” Harris writes. “If I were a straight white man. But we were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man… it was too big of a risk.”

Instead, Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, but the ticket still lost to Trump.

Buttigieg told Politico on Thursday (September 18) he was surprised by Harris’ reasoning.

“My experience in politics has been that the way that you earn trust with voters is based mostly on what they think you’re going to do for their lives, not on categories,” he said. “I believe in giving Americans more credit.”
