Kai Bowman
Executive Director for Development
City of Detroit Mayor’s Office

Kai Bowman serves as the Executive Director for Development in the Mayor’s Office. In this role he’s negotiated over $35M in community benefits as part of $2.5B FCA plant expansion deal generating 5k new jobs. In addition to this work, he serves as co chair for Mayor’s Equity Council Entrepreneurship committee and worked on mitigation strategies for Detroit small businesses in response to COVID-19.

Kai has extensive experience working and living abroad with Whirlpool as a member of their Global Leader Program and the United Service Organization as a Director in support of US troops during both wars. At Whirlpool, he was responsible for $185M overseeing 12 national accounts.

Kai earned his BA from the University of Michigan (2002), MS in Finance and Development from NYU (2006) and MBA in Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Indiana University (2014).

Kai believes that his purpose in life is to take his personal and professional experiences and impart those on the next generation. To that end, he’s founded a nonprofit called Goes Global (www.goesglobal.org), a youth development and global exploration program.
