Director extraordinaire Jordan Peele ’s new UFO movie “Nope” is at the top of the North American charts already in just the first weekend of opening in theaters, WDIV reported.

The movie, which garnered about $44 million in ticket sales, Universal Pictures (U debuted at a whopping $71 million) opened at nearly 4,000 movie theaters in the United States and in Canada.

According to the article, movie critics were primarily positive about the movie, which featured “Get Out” actors Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun and is about UFO films like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “Signs,” and has a very positive rating across the board.

“It’s a great number,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution said in the article. “It’s amazing how broadly it’s playing too.”

In comparison, “Top Gun: Maverick” debuted at $10 million and “Elvis” debuted at $6.3 million.
