Joe Louis Greenway Groundbreaking Begins Today

Detroit communities around the 27.5 Mile Greenway stretch don’t have to imagine for long a connectivity hub that will allow for greater travel to neighborhoods along with increased mobility.

This will now be a reality through the Joe Lois Greenway project. The Greenway ground breaking will be at 11 a.m. today at 8052 Joy Road (between Alpine Street and Greenlawn) according to a press release.

Mayor Mike Duggan, family of Joe Louis, and civic and community leaders will be in attendance.

This project, according to the press release is going to unite Detroit communities and begins with Phase One in the Midwest Neighborhood.

Also, the Greenway will connect Detroiters in a new way to each other and to the city’s international riverfront, according to the press release. This new access for residents will improve economic development as the city recovers from the impact of the pandemic.

The Joe Louis Greenway will also increase quality of life for Detroiters, according to the release, by providing increased mobility and transportation in the region as well as housing development. The greenway will also connect neighborhoods and the cities of Detroit, Dearborn, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.
