Jazz in The Gardens 2018 kicked off to great reviews of sun, fun, and music. Along with a great crowd of concertgoers from around the U.S., there was plenty of activities and shopping including vendors and Macy’s pop-up shops that inticed women and men alike.
Kicking off the opening day was “A Randolph Band” and “Trombone Shorty & Orleans” who made way for the legendary Smokey Robinson. After a slight set change and entertainment by Rickey Smiley, the stage was set for the night with Fantasia opening for the evening. Leaving it all on the floor (literally) with her famous “shoe kick-off” Fantasia left fans standing and wanting more.
However, those attending the most anticipated act of the night was from the iconic Chaka Khan. However, from the moment Khan began her performance on stage it was filled with random pauses, broken lyrics and repeated moments of disengagement with the audience, causing questions on Khan’s physical and mental state at the time of this performance.
Chaka Khan’s “interesting” performance has been the talk of social media with supporters wishing her to get well to those with deep disappointment for monies spent on the more than lackluster performance.
But, concert-goers still have many performances to look forward to on Sunday with performances by Joe, Salt and Pepper and the sultry songstress Anita Baker making a stop at Jazz In The Gardens as apart of her farewell tour.
