DETROIT, Aug. 26, 2014 – The southeast Michigan American Heart Association named Janice Cosby Bridges, chief marketing officer for Ascension Health Michigan, chair of the 2015 Go Red For Women Detroit campaign.
To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women, a social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. The educational campaign culminates in annual luncheon events across the country. Cosby Bridges will serve as chair for the upcoming Southeast Michigan event, slated for Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.
As campaign chair, Cosby Bridges’ goal is to see more women engaged in the movement and taking better care of their heart health.
“You don’t need to have heart disease to support Go Red,” said Janice Cosby Bridges, chief marketing officer for Ascension Health Michigan and chair of the 2015 Go Red For Women Detroit campaign. “Being prepared for life’s unexpected possibilities and having the support system makes me stronger,” said Cosby Bridges. That support system is Go Red For Women.”
Cosby Bridges served as co-chair for the 2014 campaign, which hosted a Go Red luncheon that generated more than $500,000 for the American Heart Association. Funds raised through Go Red support local programming and education regarding women’s heart health, including community education and clinical research.
Prior to the luncheon, St. John Providence Health System, part of Ascension Health Michigan, and the Association, will launch a series of initiatives aimed at educating women about heart disease. Details can be found in the coming months at www.heart.org/semi.
“If we can encourage more women to see their primary physicians on a regular basis I feel we have accomplished something,” said Cosby Bridges. “And of course if more women get involved with Go Red, that’s great, too!”
