Introducing new nursing organization: Black Nurses Rock-Detroit Chapter

bridget leonardThe Detroit Chapter of Black Nurses was established by thirteen ambitious African American nurses “to inspire and empower innovative leaders that will serve and educate vulnerable communities” in April 2016 in Detroit, Michigan. The national organization, Black Nurses Rock, Inc. was founded in 2014 and has become the largest online community where professional black nurse’s share, network, and develop together. The organization is focused on providing support and mentorship to nurses in an effort to elevate the profession and improve communities. Black Nurses Rock, a non-profit organization, represents over 150,000 African American nurses and students from the USA, Canada, Eastern Caribbean, Africa, Japan, and Germany including the city of Detroit.
Chapter President Dr. Bridget Leonard stated, “The mission of  Detroit Chapter of Black Nurses Rock is to assist driven, determined, and dedicated Detroit nurses to grow professionally, while addressing healthcare disparities in the metro Detroit area. We are committed to making a difference because our chapter members are empowered, engaged and ready to embrace the needs of the city”.
As a formal introduction to Metro Detroit, Black Nurse Rock Detroit Chapter will be hosting an official Meet and Greet on Friday June 10, 2016, at the Athenuem Suite Hotel, Detroit, Michigan from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. This epic event will provide an opportunity for local nurses to network with community organizations and businesses, healthcare agencies, and  schools of nursing. In addition, these entities will learn about the mission and vision of  Black Nurses Rock Detroit Chapter and discover ways partnerships can be formed to implement specific healthcare initiatives and projects in the metro area.
